For a highly-regulated financial services group of Talanx’s scale, the stakes are high: compliance failures are not an option.

Every year brings new obligations — from EU directives like DORA to evolving national insurance regulations and stricter data privacy rules. Add geopolitical uncertainty, cross-border disputes, and contracts in multiple languages, and complexity multiplies.

“The tasks of the Legal Department are increasing and the regulatory requirements for us as a financial services provider are also rising,” said Dr. Matthias Horz, In-House Lawyer at Talanx. “The demand for support is growing — but we have to deliver more with the same or less.”

Manual reviews by the Legal Department slowed responsiveness and heightened risk. Talanx needed a single platform to manage compliance-heavy workflows at scale, reduce friction across borders, and free lawyers to focus on strategically relevant issues.

Solution

Talanx adopted Harvey as its legal AI platform and embedded it across diverse legal teams. Today, Harvey is part of daily work, saving lawyers up to six hours per week across legal research, analyzing documents, and drafting.

  • Compliance at Scale: ICT contract reviews for DORA requirements dropped from two hours to just 15 minutes. This shift has already saved Talanx Group more than 400 external consultant hours in 2025, while giving the Legal Department a clear, consistent overview of its ICT contracts.
  • Global Consistency: Harvey enables reviews of 100+ page foreign court decisions in minutes, accelerates clause drafting, and supports multilingual contracts and translations — ensuring reliable, consistent outputs across jurisdictions.
  • Streamlined Contracts: Harvey cut a services agreement from more than 130 pages with 13 appendices down to a clear 60-page version with just three appendices. By consolidating common terms and eliminating duplicative clauses, the contract became easier for business partners to understand and navigate — while also reducing legal risk.
  • Lawyer Enablement: With Playbooks embedded in Harvey for Word, NDA review times have fallen by more than 60%. Junior lawyers now complete first-pass reviews with confidence, freeing senior lawyers to focus on higher-value strategy

  • Unlocking New Projects: Senior Lawyer Duru Gençtürk and Legal Manager Özgür Saç shared how Harvey gave their team the capacity to take on long standing initiatives. With time back, they were able to revise insurance products and update procedures to ensure compliance. “Harvey freed up our time, letting us focus on those projects — while also assisting us along the way,” they said.
  • Cross-Border Speed and Accuracy: Elena Dueva, Legal Counsel at HDI Global SE and HDI Global Specialty SE, described the challenge of managing a constant flow of cross-border legal work. Her team supports colleagues worldwide — often across multiple languages and under tight deadlines. Harvey has accelerated that workload, turning what once took weeks of manual review into tasks completed in hours. “Harvey allows us to quickly process multilingual legal texts, summarize foreign court decisions, and draft initial clauses for international contracts in minutes — helping us respond to global legal matters faster and with greater accuracy,” she said.
