Harvey In Practice is our series where legal experts show real workflows in Harvey in action. In this episode, Millie Lehmann, Strategic Business Development Lead at Harvey and former Associate at White & Case, walks through using Harvey to build and run Playbooks in Word.

Traditional legal playbooks are often lengthy, static documents that are difficult to navigate in the moment — making them more of a burden than a practical tool. Instead of needing to search through reference docs or manually compare against PDFs, Harvey can turn playbooks into dynamic assets you can use directly in Word, where most contract review work is already done.

The Power of Playbooks in Word

You can reduce contract review time without sacrificing consistency with Harvey Playbooks in Word. Playbooks automatically analyze documents against customized playbooks and flag clauses as acceptable, needs review, or unacceptable.

From there, you can click in to see Harvey’s reasoning and apply suggested redlines with one click to conform clauses with your playbook rules. You can do this clause-by-clause or review and apply all changes. This not only significantly reduces contract review time, but also helps maintain consistency across documents.

Playbook managers can upload a playbook in any format and Harvey will convert it into a structured set of rules. This can be done from scratch, from existing playbooks, or even using existing contracts with winning language, where Harvey will automatically extract that winning language and build a playbook for you.

Managers also have control on who can access a playbook, making it easy to create specific playbooks for different teams or practice areas.

Making Playbook Reviews More Intuitive

As part of our work to better support all of the ways lawyers use Word, we recently released functionality that makes playbook review more intuitive, precise, and customizable. Now, you can:

  • See which clauses in a document have and have not been reviewed by a Playbook
  • Filter to review only redlined text
  • Reject redlines and revert to the original text
  • See Playbook version history, including who last edited and what changes they made

Our latest Harvey for Word upgrade also makes it 5 times faster and more accurate by generating 4.5 times the number of suggestions to ensure comprehensive edits. Together, these enhancements make Playbook review in Word a faster, more reliable way to review contracts and ensure your winning language scales across every deal.
