Latham & Watkins LLP and Harvey today announced a collaboration to develop an AI-enabled fund formation solution. Through the design partnership, Latham is bringing together lawyers from its market-leading Investment Funds Practice with Harvey’s product and engineering teams to help advance the technology supporting the fund documentation process.

The collaboration is focused on building AI capabilities across key aspects of the fund formation process including LPAs, side letters, subscription documents and comment memos. By bringing Latham’s fund formation experience, market knowledge, and practitioner perspective directly into the development process, the collaboration aims to streamline processes and create more opportunities for lawyers to focus on the strategic, business-critical issues that matter most to clients and their investors.

“Fund formation requires lawyers to navigate an enormous amount of detail while staying focused on the commercial priorities of sponsors and investors,” said Matthew Chase, Global Chair of Latham’s Investment Funds Practice. “We’re excited to partner with Harvey to combine their engineering expertise with the breadth of practitioner perspective across Latham’s premier global platform, and to translate our market knowledge and insights into AI-enabled tools that support our clients.”

“The best legal technology is built with a deep understanding of how sophisticated lawyers work and what they need,” said Winston Weinberg, CEO & Co-Founder at Harvey. “Latham gives our product and engineering teams direct insight into the needs of lawyers handling some of the most complex fund formation matters, helping us build capabilities that reflect the complexity and realities of their work.”

“Across private equity and the broader transactional environment, we see opportunities to apply AI in targeted ways that complement our lawyers’ experience and judgment and enhance how we serve clients,” said Amber Banks, M&A and Private Equity Partner and Member of Latham’s AI Strategy Committee. “This collaboration puts that approach into practice, bringing the perspective of our lawyers directly into the development of capabilities designed around complex, real-world legal work.”

“Our technology strategy is grounded in the work our lawyers do and the outcomes our clients expect,” said Rene Mendoza, Chief Information Officer at Latham & Watkins. “We are pleased to continue to collaborate with Harvey to develop advanced AI capabilities that help us tap into the collective expertise of our lawyers in new ways. Through our collaboration with Harvey, we are equipping our internal teams with powerful AI tools and, at the same time, introducing innovative AI solutions into our practice that support our commitment to delivering exceptional client service.”
