Harvey Team

Harvey In Practice is our series where legal experts show real workflows in Harvey in action. In this episode, Andrew Johnston, Strategic Business Development Manager at Harvey and former Associate at Goodwin Procter, Blakes, and Stikeman Elliott, walks through using Harvey to analyze a large set of contracts for due diligence — dramatically reducing review time.
Diligence reviews often come with familiar pain points: hundreds or thousands of agreements, inconsistent document sets, and a tight deadline. Associates spend hours combing through contracts to find key clauses, and then manually copy them into a spreadsheet or chart.
Instead of reviewing each contract one by one, you can use Harvey to extract and analyze data across an entire set in minutes. With review tables, you can identify and summarize thousands of data points, with every result linked back to the original source language. The process becomes faster, more accurate, and fully traceable, freeing your team to focus on analysis and client judgment.
Extracting Key Insights at Scale
After uploading your agreement set, Harvey builds a review table where each column targets a different provision of the agreements to extract or summarize.
You can configure each column in the table to meet your needs, whether you’re looking for a summary of the provision, a date, a yes or no classification, or a verbatim extraction. You also have the option to build columns one-by-one or use the Column Builder to generate multiple at once.
In the example above, the client wants us to review 102 commercial agreements for key terms as part of a financing. For this, you might create columns to answer these questions:
- What are the commercial terms?
- Is there a termination clause?
- What are the assignment provisions?
Harvey then extracts the specified information from each contract and fills in the table. When you click into each cell, you’ll see Harvey’s summary and the exact source language from the contract to check for accuracy. From there, you can filter, sort, and export all results to Excel, Word, CSV, or download the underlying files to share with clients or stakeholders.
With Harvey, what would normally take hours or days of manual review happens in minutes. Diligence review is faster, more accurate, and fully traceable — helping your legal team work smarter at scale.
