About Machado Meyer
Founded in 1972, Machado Meyer is one of Brazil’s leading and most respected full-service law firms. The firm combines legal excellence with an entrepreneurial approach to innovation to deliver solutions that drive business and create a positive impact for clients and society. With more than 550 professionals across Corporate, M&A, Tax, Real Estate, Labor, and Litigation practices, the firm combines technical rigor with a forward-looking mindset, advising national and international clients and delivering lasting value.
Innovation is embedded in the firm’s DNA. Led by Partner Sávio Pereira de Andrade, the Innovation & Legaltech practice drives firmwide transformation through technology adoption, experimentation, and training — positioning Machado Meyer as a leader of responsible generative AI use in Latin America.
Opportunity
Machado Meyer’s litigation, transactional and advisory teams often faced massive document reviews under tight deadlines. “Before Harvey, we faced significant challenges in reviewing large volumes of documents under tight deadlines,” explained Helena Bianca Gandolfo, Senior Attorney spearheading innovation initiatives with Partner Pereira de Andrade. “Certain projects were practically impossible given the hours required.”
The firm needed a solution that could scale legal expertise responsibly, accelerate complex analysis without compromising accuracy, and give lawyers more time for high-value strategy and client service.
Solution
Machado Meyer’s Innovation & Legaltech team co-led the implementation of Harvey, launching a two-month proof of concept supported by Harvey’ Customer Success team. The rollout included trainings, weekly Q&A sessions, and live support for users across practice areas.
Within weeks, Harvey became a daily workspace for litigation, corporate, and advisory teams. The majority of the firm’s lawyers now use Harvey daily, averaging 20 hours of usage per month.
“Adoption was immediate,” said Pereira de Andrade. “Lawyers realized that Harvey wasn’t just a time saver — it was a thinking partner that improves accuracy, helps us deliver faster results, and deepens our strategic impact.”
Harvey’s flexibility allowed teams to apply it across diverse workflows, from litigation analysis to pricing and client proposals.
- Large Scale Investigation Review: In a high-profile case involving hundreds of technical reports and court records, the team used Vault to summarize and categorize materials by theme and timeline. Review time dropped from weeks to days, allowing lawyers to focus on argumentation and stakeholder coordination.
- Data Driven Pricing and Proposal Scoping: For a project spanning 30 concurrent proceedings, Harvey mapped each matter, key documents, and orders, and produced a comparative analysis of complexity and estimated workloads. “By structuring information and reducing subjectivity, Harvey helped us price with confidence — a clear competitive advantage,” Gandolfo explained.
- Complex, Cross-Border Matters: In multilingual, technical matters, Harvey generated draft translations of foreign-language documents, enabling faster review and prioritization. Lawyers gained early insight and developed strategies days ahead of schedule.
- Winning New Business: Harvey strengthened the firm’s ability to respond rapidly to client demands. When prospective clients send large data sets or urgent matters, Machado Meyer can now organize materials, identify key documents, and prepare responses within hours — a decisive edge in competitive pitches. “Clients notice the difference when we can respond quickly and with precision, even under tight deadlines,” said Gandolfo.
Impact
By integrating Harvey, Machado Meyer redefined how its lawyers work — amplifying expertise rather than replacing it. On average, Machado Meyer estimates that its lawyers save over 10 hours each week, time reinvested into client strategy, cross-functional collaboration, and mentoring. Projects that once took days now take hours, with greater consistency, clarity, and confidence.
“Harvey is now part of our daily practice,” said Pereira de Andrade. “It empowers our lawyers to think faster, act decisively, and focus on what truly matters: delivering exceptional results.”
Beyond efficiency, Harvey has become a catalyst for growth and competitive differentiation. With faster turnaround on proposals and stronger client-facing insight, Machado Meyer has expanded its ability to win new business and deliver value across borders.
“Harvey has become a true partner in innovation,” Pereira de Andrade concluded. “It helps our lawyers think faster, analyze deeper, and deliver more confidently — all while staying true to the craft of law.
