Machine Learning Engineer: AI for Social Good

United States

Why Harvey

Harvey will be a category-defining company for the application layer built on top of foundation models like GPT-4.

  • Exceptional product market fit: multiple multi-million dollar deals with the largest professional service providers (e.g. PwC) and the largest law firms on Earth (e.g. Allen & Overy).

  • Massive demand: 15,000 law firms on our waitlist.

  • World-class team: ex-DeepMind, Google Brain, FAIR, Tesla Autopilot. Former founding engineers at $1B+ startups like Superhuman and Glean.

  • Work directly with OpenAI to build the future of generative AI and redefine professional services.

  • Top of market cash and equity compensation.

We are building systems that can automate the most complex knowledge work in the world, e.g. billion dollar litigations and corporate transactions.

  • Dealing with the most sensitive data in the world: client data from the largest companies in the world.

  • Working past the edge of published AI research: tackling problems far beyond the complexity of existing AI benchmarks.

  • Unsolved product, architectural, and business problems: natural language interfaces, prohibitively expensive evaluation of models, massive marginal costs, versioning / training / segregating models per task / legal system / practice area / client and client’s clients.

As our first ML Engineer focused on applying AI for social good, you’ll shape how Harvey uses legal AI for social good and access to justice. For example, you’ll:

  • Design, build, deploy, and optimize AI systems to help non-profits, courts, and other public interest organizations access the power of AI to improve access to justice.

  • Collaborate closely with public interest organizations, courts, and other legal organizations to understand where AI can be impactful, safe, and effective in improving access to critical legal resources. For example, work closely with the Singapore Courts to roll out an AI program to facilitate the small claims process for individuals without legal representation.

Your work will also help develop and improve our general AI systems, including:

  • developing and evaluating large systems of interconnected LLMs, model evaluation,

  • developing and implementing novel search and QA algorithms,

  • dealing with hard engineering constraints like latency and expensive model inference,

  • … and more.

  • Work directly with our founders, legal and research teams, OpenAI, and public interest organizations we help serve

  • Tackle unsolved research and engineering problems required to effectively deploy specialized LLMs to thousands of individuals .

  • Help build our applied research organization

  • Help identify and shape our AI for social good initiatives

Evidence of exceptional ML engineering ability.

  • Publications in top AI conferences.

  • Experience at elite AI research labs (OpenAI, Google Brain, DeepMind).

  • Experience working in complex and high-stakes ML domains (self-driving cars, search, ads, quant finance).

  • Experience with LLMs or legal is not required.

You’re curious and have an interest in using AI to help with social good.

  • 3-5+ years experience in ML engineering.

Let’s build the future together.
